On December 4, 2024, we had the absolute honor of celebrating 30 incredible young musicians at Ohlone Elementary School in Santa Cruz. These students weren’t just learning to play the guitar—they were discovering their voices, their confidence, and the joy that music brings. It was all part of the Mariposa Arts Fall Guitar Program, an inspiring collaboration between FG4K and Arts Council Santa Cruz County’s Mariposa Arts program.
Thanks to this partnership, we donated over 120 guitars to students across Santa Cruz County this fall, sparking a love of music that will stay with them for years to come. And guess what? Another 120 guitars are already on their way for the spring semester, ensuring even more kids have the chance to experience the magic of music.
“This partnership has been a dream come true,” shared Ben Dudley, FG4K’s Executive Director. “When kids get their own guitars to take home, it’s about more than learning music—it’s about opening doors and showing them what’s possible.”
Sarah Brothers, Arts Education Director at Arts Council Santa Cruz County, put it perfectly: “The pride these kids feel when they have their very own guitar is something we’ve never seen before. It’s inspiring their creativity and giving them the tools to explore their musical potential.”
We’re so grateful to be part of these journeys. Together with our amazing partners at Mariposa Arts, we’ve turned classrooms into stages and dreams into melodies. Here’s to the power of music—and the bright futures it’s helping to create.
