During the summer months of 2022, FG4K teamed up with the Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) of Portland Public Schools to run a pilot program for 160 students. The goal of the summer program was to help BIPOC students have a math enrichment program that would prepare them for the upcoming school year. In addition to daily math support, the students participated in multiple activities including basketball, aviation, construction and guitar.
“FG4K was so honored to partner with the PIL this summer. We gave 160 kids guitar lessons twice a week and at the end of the summer they all got to keep their guitar!” said Ben Dudley, FG4K Executive Director. “We hope that we can continue this program in future years. We learned a great deal this summer through this pilot program and are excited to take what we have learned and share it across the country.”
